Downturn puts brakes on rapid change in Florida Keys" I took a walk around SLC's downtown Friday. The Moromon church bought the entire city block across from it's main Temple, and is redoing EVERY building in the city block, which included two high rise buildings with two shopping malls in their lower floors. Looking at the downtown here, you'd think there was a BOOM here in this city. But, it's all the church spending it's billions. I am telling you....things are not booming here but you woundn't think we were in a recession. Development slowed a year ago in the Fall but it started picking up again this past summer. Everywhere I drive new buildings are going up. And its not like we have an unemployment rate that's good..... 8.9%. I bet SLC's is lower...... SLC is expected to recover next year....
