Tack rooms I've cleaned out were lined with wire mesh.

I never had trouble with racoons on the mountain, in the field or barn. Erin would usually sleep most the day on the front step or in the house, then rise at dusk and be off and away. She took her 'territory' very seriously.

For some reason, tho, she never bothered deer, even as they ate through the orchard. Too cute? Seriously, I'd look out and see a half dozen out there, standing on heel, and plucking apples, and she'd be watching them from the porch. "I knooow I said don't hurt them, but you could chase them off"

oh, and she got snake-bit 3 times. she was very serious about dealing with rattlers. the first time I thought she was going to die... so swelled up and in incredible pain. I had to rope her jaws then we managed to slide her onto a blanket then carry her to the car for me to get to the vet. She took after a rattler one day that was a few feet away from my dad, but he had his hoe in hand and he took care of that.
