wow, old family friend just called. my parents generation. I grew up with her family from Dallas to Midland to L.A. - them oil families following each around.

anyways... semi-topical here - she was bemoaning that Ed (the husband) watches FOX News and she has to tune it out. I told her that he was such a sweet thang that I reckoned that was okay.

They're just up in TN. I am such a putz I have not visited. I haven't seen them since I was a late teen. but when I was 23, my parents were in Indoneshia and they were still in L.A. at the time (tho then went to Indonesia, too). anyways... I got stuck in Salt Lake City with no money to get back to SF. long story. but, so... I was calling home for a Western Union, but I had no clue how to get hold of my folks. So I go to an allnight coffee shop with my last 2 dollars and buy a cup of coffee and piece of pie and the lady keeps filling my cup while I call Betty and ask how to call my parents, then sit there until 3am when they will be awake across the world. she was so upset at me later... "why didn't you tell me you needed money to get home? I would have sent it. don't you do that again". well, allrighty. I really got to get up and see her...

and grin at Ed as he watches FOX and I grill him a perfect steak. he always was a bit of a fuss-bucket.
