I was a little kid in Germany when the wall went up.

They put up some barbed wire and waited for our reaction. If Kennedy had ordered the tank company in Berlin to take it out, that would have been the end of it. But we blinked.

This goes back to the Berlin airlift of 1948. When the Russians closed the border a tank column sent to Berlin would have opened it back up. But we blinked there then.

Now we are blinking at the Islamists.

From this side of the ocean, and on TV, many of us watch with horror to see the wall go up. Worse, to see people trying to flee East Germany and be killed midway across the "moat"...

I fear we are watching the same story again now, but different scenario.
