Great series of posts, cnyndwllr...

Sdgla is the type that goes to teabag rallies with signs protesting socialism in health care and then tells his Congressman not to touch his Medicare. And Hawkmoon, whatever he claims to have done in Iraq...hopefully someone followed up to fix it.

the rest of us must be hoping that our progeny will be fighting wars forever.

What in the world are you saying Ed ? You wish to fight wars forever ?

It must be nice to see things so simplistically that you can envision the one way to win an ideological battle

You make broad assumptions Ed and I wish you whatever peace they bring you.

Thanks for the sincere wishes.

Yes, it's only guys like you and Hawk who are hoping that our grandchildren won't need to take on fanatics, the rest of us must be hoping that our progeny will be fighting wars forever.

You sure seem to be ensuring that it happens with your isolationist policies.

We learned A LONG TIME AGO that the US must take the lead in confronting totalitarianism or we'll eventually be left with no one to follow that example.

Listen, you talk about letting the Muslim people of the world sort this out amongst themselves without our involvement.

But some 60 years ago, the world faced a similar threat. The German and Italian, as well as the Japanese, fell under the spell of charismatic leaders promising them visions of empire and superiority. The "moderates" amongst them either were forced to flee, or were harassed and intimidated to prevent their active opposition. The result is that millions of people, theirs and ours, had to die to quash those visions.

But had the leaders of the free world, via the League of Nations, stood up to oppose and confront those totalitarian leaders while they were still consolidating their power, the result would have been the same and far fewer people would have had to lose their lives.

I'm not a warmonger. I'm a realist who wants to nip this militant Islamic scourge in the bud before it gets too far out of hand.

And the only way we can do that is to stiffen the spines of Islamic moderates and get them to oppose those militant forces so our children are not required to do it years in the future.
