No, you've pretty much got it right. In fact, there is a contingent there who sometimes speak up when something is going on that presupposes a uniformly liberal point of view. Since I'm not actually a member (not a joiner) I lend moral support when we get together for dinner in other settings.

A couple of years back they had a assistant minister, some kind of temporary assignment to get seasoning (I'm guessing). He was an Army chaplain. On our first introduction we shook hands, exchanged names, he volunteered that he was an Army chaplain and then apologized for that. In fact, in the entire year he was there that is the only thing I knew about him, that he was in the army and uncomfortable about it.

The engineer is not a Unitarian. He has the loose idea (again, very strongly held) that capitalism would create the wealth which would then be distributed along socialist guidelines under a communist government. Look how well China is doing was one of his points. Very muddled, especially for an engineer.

This is what I get for living in Evanston. No wonder I'm crazy most days.
