May be more legend than truth to that story.

I have a friend who studied Irish literature and history at Brown and was a friend of Uris's. We read the book at about the same time when it came out.

He said it did have "legends" in it but that it was a great explanation of what happened to the Irish at the hands of the Brits and the role the Church played in it. Lots of good history in it.

If you do read it, I'd be interested in your take on it. It was well over 30-35 years ago when I read it but I do remember how it impressed me.
