I ask that you thoughtfully comment on the four critical elements of Objectivism, as defined by Ayn Rand herself

Pardon me for stepping in on this, but the only fault I can find with those four elements is with:

2. Reason (the faculty which identifies and integrates the material provided by man’s senses) is man’s only means of perceiving reality, his only source of knowledge, his only guide to action, and his basic means of survival.

Intuition, hunch, instinct and emotion, as long as they don't contradict reason, are also important factors in human health and survival. Rands antipathy towards emotion is unfortunate, although understandable. She couldn't have accomplished what she did if she was anything other than what she was..

BTW, I've been toying with the idea of starting a Rand board here on SI. Anyone think it's a good idea, since her works and philosophy have once again become prominent?

You best check with Bill on those questions. Discussing those in a serious sense, one in which personal attacks are not part of the process, is well beyond the present state of conversations here.

You should know that Bill and I were part of the original fabled FADG thread in which it was possible to do so. But it's no longer possible, given the deep political polarizations.

My guess is Bill started this thread with the hope it might be; but for a variety of reasons, it was clearly not so. And there is no way from here to there.

Some other time; some other place.

To do so here, given the all that we know about only leads to something beyond a disruption. On that score, Bill is correct.

"From my prior ventures into Vfc as well as some personal interchanges between us, I know you to be a thoughtful person, albeit one of a persuasion clearly somewhat left of center."

Well - he may be thoughtful but he is a full fledged member of the attack team. In particular, John simply discredits inputs from Rasmussen and the WSJ out of hand - and in a protected land - preaches the gospel. I noted with great glee this week that Gallup is now showing the publics distaste for the Democratic Congress.

"Republicans Edge Ahead of Democrats in 2010 VoteRegistered voters prefer Republicans for the House, 48% to 44%
November 11, 2009"

gallup.com

In simply dispatching alternate thought - discussion is stymied and frustrations stoked. It is all done so well by the home team.

Any allegation of "center" is simply delusional. It is Obama Obama Obama - all day Obama.

I hope he stays and engages outside of a protected arena.
