Not true. It's actually a lot more complicated than that.

CJ's explanation goes a little too far in identifying the benefits of a "fully synthesizable core." Suffice to say, though, that AMD is now a design house that is reliant on foundries for 100% of its production. Their designs have to be made with outsourcing in mind.

In light of this, removing the licensing issue was a huge thing for AMD going forward.
