I wouldn't dismiss GTW's being bought out. But if it is, it will probably be at much lower prices.

Everyone who is hoping for a buyout to rescue their investment should keep in mind what happened to Snapple. The were bought out but at a fraction of their bull-run high.

Hard for me to see where GTW's attraction really is. With CPQ pumping out attactive reasonably priced computers ,buyers who are going to come in at the low end (and that's where many of them are entering) will just hop down to their local CompUSA. Or maybe dial up CompUSA. In either case they get a cheaper (and probably better) computer than they can get though Gateway.

I own a Gateway, but my next purchase, which will be for my sons, will be through Comp USA in all probability. Also Gateway hasn't endeared me with their customer service. It's been spotty, ranging from good to awful.

Gateway's move into the corporate market is in my opinion an acknowledgement that their present business is going down the toilet.

For folks who are hoping that their Home Entertainment centers will save them, I can only say, lots of luck. GTW's earnings and profitability are going down the drain now. Profit from these centers, if any, is off in the future. In the mean time MSFT with its set top box has a cheaper, more viable solution for the present.

Also GTW's move into mortor and bricks, sets my short's blood racing. Here's a field they know nothing about, which is likely to add expenses with, I believe, little payback.

Just one short's opinion.
