Paul:

As usual, your posts are focused and useful.

>"By February 1998, Intel is expected to further drop the price of the Pentium II 233MHz to roughly $294, while the Pentium 233MHz with MMX technology will see a modest price drop to $294, as well, industry sources said."

>That is a $106 drop. Let's assume it will drop another $75 by the end of the year - resulting in a $219 price.

How will this scenario affect margins? Any idea?

Gosh you mean Intel finally got you to think about the sub $1000 market

What did they do, hold a meeting and make it the company line.
Please tell Engel that the new party line is we will compete in the sub $1000 market.

Have him reverse techno gears immediately.

Maybe in the future you will get some balls and listen up sooner instead of waiting to hear his masters's voice.

But a sub $1000 P2 based system spells certain disaster for Intel's business model---in case you haven't noticed what that is.

Pentium II 233 at the same price as Pentium 233 w/MMX? What is Intel's motivation for this price reduction? The perception will be that Slot 1 is no better than Socket 7, you can get the same performance at the same price.
