Colgate and Coca Cola, like Sony and Toyota can sell lots of stuff and make lots of profits while citizens of their respective countries hide out in cardboard boxes.

Don't forget that a weaker dollar means that foreign sales, when converted into dollars, look like higher profits. There may not be a sales volume increase, only an increase on revenue recognition.

Looks good on paper, but may not indicate real growth.

That may or may not be what's happneing here, but something to consider.
