Bulba,

Since we've traditionally set the Contest closing date a couple of weeks prior to year-end, I'm assuming this year's closing date will be Friday, 12/19. Hope that's Ok with everyone.

It hasn't happened yet, and it may not happen this year, but sometime the contestant who is leading on {12/19} will not be the same as the contestant who leads on 12/31. Since this contest is a year long, I would rather wait to declare a winner until 12/31. For people wanting an earlier tax deduction, they could take a chance and contribute to the charity of the person leading on 12/19. So far it would have been a good gamble.

But maybe that's just me.

:-)

Bob

12/4/09 update
In the three weeks since I last posted an update, the markets continued their magical march to Bubbleland (with biotechs, unfortunately, tagging along at the rear). At Friday's close, the Nasdaq Composite Index was up 39.63% CYTD, or Contest Year To Date, (vs. up 37.94% CYTD three weeks ago), while the Nasdaq Biotech Index was up 15.24% CYTD (vs. up 13.17% CYTD three weeks ago)and the Contest median was up 13.54% CYTD (vs. up 12.60% CYTD three weeks ago).
Although three weeks ago it seemed RKRW's portfolio would have some competition for the lead from GENE's portfolio, that no longer is likely. And the week's closing CYTD percentages are: RKRW up 119.51%, NIGEL up 85.22%, GENE up 74.80% and MIKE up 72.89%.
At Friday's close, 20 of the 32 Contest portfolios were in the black and 15 of the 32 were beating the NBI.
Since my suggested Contest closing date of Friday, 12/18, was considered too early by some contestants, I'll move it to Christmas eve, Thursday, 12/24. However, at this point, it does appear RKRW has the Contest locked up. And unless he thinks it will jinx him, RKRW might want to post his charity info.
I much appreciate the offer by some contestants to contribute to a charity of my choice, as well as to the Contest winner's charity. So, for those so inclined, my charity choice is the WriterCoach Connection. WCC sends about 400 volunteer writing coaches (I'm one of them) to middle schools and high schools in Oakland, Berkeley and Albany. For more info and to donate, here's their website:
writercoachconnection.org
(Note that donations are passed through WCC's 501©)(3) affiliate, the Community Alliance for Learning, and are processed by JustGive. Donations are fully tax deductible.)
Portfolio adjustments: NTII (held only in RKRW's portfolio) paid a $.75 dissolution dividend on 11/18 which I simply added to its share price. (Another $.18 dividend is due 12/9.)
Enjoy the weekend biotechies!
Below is the Top Ten list on 12/4/09:
