re Manufacturing philosophies:

Chinese company: If it's close to specification it's probably good enough and we will ship it. Why would one throw away product that may be useful?

US company: If it's in spec it's OK. By the way, how can we lower the cost?

European company: If it's in spec and workmanship looks good it's OK.

Japanese company: It must be in spec and we expect great workmanship, even if it's nos specified. Please present me the distribution of your relevant process attributes. Why do you have to sort for rejects at all?

This is somewhat tongue in cheek but based on my professional experience in manufacturing.
