Well, Cerro de San Pedro is about 7.5 miles out from of the outskirts of San Luis Potosi. It is in the mountains. A small creek does run towards the city, but it peters out in a couple of miles. Minera Xavier is the operating company of the mine site. I am not sure what effect rejecting their impact statement may have. It is not their operating permit. Perhaps the judge was just saying, they need to update or clarify it to satisfy the concerns. he did not issue a closure order, but again that is for the ministry of mines. This has been going on for 14 years. They started on this way back when. The cyanide argument is specious. There is no torrential rain that would cause a spill and there is no chance for ground water contamination either from the leaching pads or the pond. Even if minor leakage occured, it has to be demonsrated that it would spread 7.5 miles radially and affect ground water the city gets its water from. This has never been scientifically suggested. This is the mine site and village. I believe 45 people live there. EC<:-}
