I did the same thing, and the closest thing I came up with was Bush kissing the Saudi King on the cheek, which I find highly objectionable. We shake hands. We don't bow. We don't kiss.

I don't know who Obama has for protocol, but they are very wrong. American leaders do not bow to royalty. A bow indicates the person being bowed to is more sovereign than the one doing the bowing. Wrong, wrong, wrong.

I don't think we would EVER find a pic of either GWB or GHWB bowing to any leader of any country....It just ISN'T done! (Well, they might bow to their wives....<ggg> Did some looking around...lots of blogs saying the same thing, but there were some funny comments here, including these, and the last one was a really good reminder .... --He wasn't bowing. His spinelessness could not hold his head up. --Obama was just admiring his own reflection in the emperor's shoes. --He should have curtsied. --For all those that think this isn't a big deal, please think of our founding fathers. Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, John Adams and all of the signers on the Declaration of Independence.... signed that document so NO AMERICAN would ever be beholden to royalty again. So many of our founding fathers lost property, friends, and family for their children, and their children's children. This IS a big deal. Obama is purposely accomplishing two things, 1) giving red state America the finger 2) telling other countries that America is subservient. lucianne.com
