The US doesn't need Thomas Jefferson, it needs an Eisenhower or George H W Bush. Someone to push the budgets towards balance, manage foreign affairs, do a few key initiatives (like the interstate highway system, allowing commercialization of the internet) and ALLOW things to work out and markets to clear. I would not look for a straight forward defult on the USD, a roughly 25-40% decline over the next 5-7 years will work things out. Who wins and who loses if the US Dollar drops to zero ? Losers - Japan Canada China UK South Korea Mexico and many others Winners - Russia Iran Norway That is a list of friends and not friends, except for Norway.
