Reminds me of de Sade, who was aginst building hospitals, because they make people sick: "No hospitals, no sick people", he said.

The Marquis was an interesting character indeed.
As so many he had an awful in-law. She used her high level connections to get him locked up in the Bastille, after he eloped with the (much) younger sister of his wife.

He actually wrote and had performed some of his plays while in the slammer.
