And how. I think you might have something there about it being a symbolic apology for dropping the A-bombs.

That is the only explanation I can think of, in lieu of saying it's because BO is an utter dolt, which I believe is true irrespective of the bow-thing...

Of course, if we apologize for the A-bombs, aren't we entitled to a reciprocal apology for Pearl Harbor, atrocities in virtually every island battle, forced death marches, and kamikazi attacks, among other things? Weren't the Japanese equally cruel, if not more so?

Not trying to ignite anything; I visited Japan recently and loved it. The Japanese are extremely polite and friendly. It's a different generation just as it is here, and I would recommend the experience to anyone.
