We had a similar situation here. The Denver Dry Goods was a Denver legend for what seems like an eternity. They had a wonderful Christmas display all along their ground floor windows. The "Denver Tea Room" was THE place to meet during any day downtown. Sadly, all that ended many years ago when the store closed. They didn't tear the building down, but I don't know what's in there now. Seems like I saw some talk of condominiums but I'm not sure.

I grew up in Missoula where Christmas was almost always white. I remember the clank of chains as people drove around in the snow. They didn't plow much back then.

The Missoula Mercantile, where you could get lingerie, clothing, furniture, appliances, hardware, a double bitted axe, steel traps, and Stetson Hats, always had a big--not huge--model railroad set up for Christmas, and they ran it constantly.

It was magical.

Stores do a lot for Christmas these days, but it's almost like they're rubbing it in your face. I don't feel the magic any more. I guess I am just a Grinch.

I can just well imagine how sad you are to see what has happened to Detroit! The pictures look like a bomb has been set off...and that hoodlems run the 'joint...' Oh wait. Maybe that is what really did happen.

Good thing no one can take away good memories!
