True. If you just knew that Hospital X in France was better at some particular procedure maybe you'd go there. But what if you ended up with some secondary reason for being there?

Most of us, when we enter the medical abyss, just have to the roll the dice because we really don't know. A friend of mine who is suffering from cancer chose the cancer centers that are heavily advertised on TV. Does he know whether their outcomes are better? I doubt it. But he knew the toll-free number (his insurance/financial situation was such that he could have gone anywhere he wanted).
