Estrogen and wound healing. In an article in Nature Medicine (1997;3:1209-15) Ashcroft et al. reported that postmenopausal women taking hormone replacement therapy had wound healing similar to that observed in young women. Wounds in postmenopausal women not taking HRT healed more slowly. In-vitro experiments indicated that estrogen was responsible for the HRT effect. It was suggested that this estrogen effect might be mediated by increasing activity of TGF-beta1.

One day in future - routine physician standing order for nursing home patients(female or male): Abrasion, skin tears, pressure ulcers - apply Ligand cream as needed. !?!?!
