I think I have the 1988 and 1989 left. I may have a 1990 also.

It is good wine. When drank young they were big bouncy and purple. They have always been delightful, just overpriced. The last one I drank may have been the 1988, it was very good with a great finish.

It helps to know how it came about. The first several years Robert Mondavi agreed to let Baronne Philipe choose the best grapes from Mondavi. They planted using the small globular cluster form of trimming. (The same one used at Mouton.) After 5 to 10 years they were going to make Opus entirely from partnership vineyards.

The style was more of an under macerated over produced perfumy and fruity big wine.

I cannot repeat enough. I like Opus. It is just not a cerebral wine.

In Pauillac terms it is more of a Pichon Comptesse de LaLande. It is not a Latour, nor is it Comtesse. FWIW Comtesse is one of my favorite Pauillacs. Due to teroir it is not Mouton either. Interestingly even though the description fits it is not Lynch Bages either.

The best wine is made from the oldest vines. I am interested to see what the current vintages are like. 20 years old vines in Bordeaux are generally put into the first growth wines.

Many top producers maintain lower status labels and younger vines production ends up in them. For example Lafitte has Duhart Milon.

The Opus you have can easily be used to impress label fanatics. If they would be impressed with Laffite, Tommy Hilfiger, et al then it should impress them.
