we are forsaking our future to placate our paranoia and make the rich richer

4 or 5% of GDP, and a generally declining portion (for decades) of the federal government's budget isn't forsaking our future. The problem isn't the military its gotten less and less of a burden over time. Even if we are spending more here than we should, the real problem is in entitlements, and recently with bailouts and stimulus plans. If we cut military spending in half, or if we doubled it, the change would be a smaller issue than the changes in future entitlement spending.

Defense is a huge burden even at current levels.
