They have at least 800 Billion dollars of cash on hand.

That's part of why I say there growth has been overestimated. They aren't actually increasing the average Chinese person's ability to consume nearly as much as much as their GDP has grown. They are trading a bunch of goods for a large pile of green paper (and yes I know most of it isn't actual cash, but that doesn't make any relevant difference).

Which doesn't mean that they haven't actually had real massive growth. Overestimated, does not imply small, or even that the growth wasn't enormous.

But the country is still strictly under government control.

Its an authoritarian dictatorship, but economic freedom has greatly increased.
