I was influenced by a couple named Lin and Larry Pardey who sailed around the world several times in a 24' boat with no head and wrote a book about their travels. I met them at a boat show and it pretty much changed a lot of my decisions.

I was young enough not to be influenced by the hardships they endured.

that made me think of Kon-Tiki. that book had a big effect on me.
