Luanda - Two people were arrested in Angola for allegedly carrying more than $1,5-million worth of fake bank notes, the state news agency reported on Wednesday.

The men, one Angolan and one Namibian, were arrested on Monday in Huambo, in central Angola, after they tried to use the forged notes in a bank, Angop said.

"These men came to Angola from Namibia and tried to insert the money into the banking system," Manuel Assis, deputy head of the police's public order unit in Huambo, was quoted as saying.

The Namibian told Angop the money belonged to his Angolan companion and he had only gone to Angola to seek medical treatment, the report said. - Sapa-AFP
