Paul - I have no idea what mindshare is. Anybody? I'm just guessing here, but I believe that mindshare is how many people think of what particular company when their product is mentioned. In other words, a survey would ask the question, "What companies make computers?" or "What companies do you think of when thinking about computers?" These kind of questions indicates how well companies have put their name in the minds of consumers, so that when consumers make purchases, they will tend to consider what they know or what is foremost in their mind.

Mindshare is a when a an idea, a company, or a product, has been planted, noticed, seen or realized by a large % of the population, so much so, to make the idea, company, or product, seem to be most popular or defacto standard. Am example of the use of mindshare would be when the World Wide Web was start to taking off one would say that "Netscape has mindshare."
