" You forgot the quotes around "understand". And it is all about playing make believe. " The GITMO detainees were NEVER a source of problems amongst the Middle East." Precisely. Yet you are trying to make the case that trying them in a civilian court will have this effect. What is your premise that allows this? " It shows America's weakness and invites future attacks, since detainees realize that even if caught they will have air time to justify the cause, plenty of publicity, and even the possibility, however remote, of defeating the infidels at their own game. " Let's parse this. There are two parts, neither of which holds water. For one, exactly how will they have air time at all? It isn't like the trials are being televised. In addition, judges usually aren't inclined to let anyone, especially the defendant have a soapbox. You watch far too much TV, and it shows. As far as the possibility of defeating anyone at their own games again shows you watch too much TV. Real terrorism trials don't have that result. Especially when the defendant confesses. "It also sets a highly undesirable precedent of rewarding our attackers with the benefits that our Constitution provides (a benefit no country in their own land would afford them)." Totally irrelevant. It is our Constitution and it protects the rights of both citizens and foreign nationals while on our soil. It has been a perversion of our Constitution that there are those, like you, who feel it shouldn't. To protect us from terrorism, you want us to jettison the foundations of our country, something the terrorists would be pleased to see happen.
