T. Boone Pickens: Natural Gas to Hit $7 Next Year
Yesterday I caught up with my friend T. Boone Pickens. I always enjoy seeing him. He's 81 years old and has more energy than I do. Hard to believe, but it's true !! He always tells me wonderful stories about his kids or his fourth wife. He's larger than life and as down to earth as anybody you'll ever meet. He told me a wonderful story about a meeting with the president of the United States and former New York Governor Pataki, which involved Boone writing on the table cloth. The president remembered the meeting distinctly because they walked out with the table cloth and Governor Pataki paid for it. Just one of his many memorable experiences !

Yesterday we met up at the World Business Forum here in New York City. I interviewed him before he spoke to a crowd of 3,500 people. I also introduced him to the crowd before my colleague Alan Murray, Deputy Managing Editor of The Wall Street Journal, did a one-on-one Q&A in front of the audience.

In the interview he talked about oil prices and natural gas prices and his support of the Natural Gas Act. He believes natural gas will average $7 dollars next year and $9 dollars in 2011. He also thinks oil will end this year on average at $75 dollars a barrel and $85 a barrel at the end of next year. This year has been a very strong one for BP Capital Management. Last year was ugly and Boone is the first to admit it. This year his commodity portfolio is up 98% year to date and his equity portfolio is up 17% year to date. Not bad!
