This is strange.

Medicare usually pays for most endoscopy procedures (colonoscopy, EGD, etc.) at ambulatory surgical centers as an outpatient procedure if you otherwise qualify (they don't pay but every 10 years or something for a screening colonoscopy; you'd think they would find it advantageous to do one more frequently). Many GI docs operate their own outpatient endoscopy centers for this reason, and they usually are quite a bit less expensive than hospital outpatient facilities.

There is probably some reasonable explanation, but it does seem odd to me. But I haven't worked with any of these surg. centers in a while, so maybe something has changed.
