Net policy agenda in works

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado--From cybercrimes and Net taxes to
electronic commerce, lawmakers at the first Internet Summit of
the States are tired of Congress working alone to shape policy
for the Information Age.

Joined by high-tech and telecommunications industry executives,
legislators from 29 states have gathered here to bang out their
own Internet policy agenda during the next two days.

Topping the lawmakers' list is whether to support a
temporary federal ban on localities imposing new taxes
targeted at only Net-related services. Also on the list are how
to drive investment in local phone service infrastructures in
order to increase bandwidth for data transmission; how to handle
unsolicited email and online privacy; and figuring out what
legislation--if any--will lure Silicon Valley wealth to their
diverse states.

As said in prior post,I think Rockwell is right re:what market craves, compared to cable, etc. Now Q is, what is Coms/Robot gonna do. I am sure, in fact I have read, that they are working hard on xDSL technology. I think demand there will be huge. I think Coms is in the best position to execute, and market to the public, industry.

The fact that Rockwell makes noise first means little, IMHO. Coms can't sit on its hands, but I'm sure they aren't. Smart would be to make sure they have major input into stardards area. But don't make too much market noise about a product thats a couple of years off when you are selling 56k now.

Modem sales are coms biggest current problem. I hope its fully in the price. Nov. quarter is gonna be below current estimates, I think. But then I think the outlook going beyond will be good. Credibly.

Regards, Doug

Actually, that is a good point, and I believe that.
However, remember this, competition is a lot of it or everything.
In this type of market, is it possible for the following competition to exist:
If for example, one tel. company provided !Mbs DSL for a monthly fee of $$$, then another tel. company provided 4Mbs DSL for the same price, the customer would pick the 4Mbs.
I am not sure if it works like that for this type of market or not, due to the way the Bells divide up the land.
