I think Reid has embarked on a course that should yield results. I was not aware that for the initial consideration by the Senate, 60 votes are required. Then after they meet with the House members and get a bill from the Committee, that revote will require only 50 votes plus Biden's vote. Since the House bill has the public option, the Senate need only consider the abortion amendment in their bill. If they do, my sense is that they can get the needed 60.

With Lieberman, he can go and lead the construction of the Israeli settlements and expose himself to getting shot at by the Palestenians who are getting uprooted. At least that, I hope will get him to realize that he needs to work for peace and not war.

Senate rules require a majority vote. Yer confusing a cloture vote with passage of a bill. < 60 votes means you can't automatically stop people from hocking a chinik, aka bumping their gums in filibuster. Let them talk all Thanksgiving dinner, if they are of a mind to, but it only takes a majority vote to pass.
