neolib, the purpose of patents and copyrights is to

"To promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts"

they don't exist to enrich the inventor. enriching the inventor is only allowed to achieve the goal listed above.

congress has been bought and paid for by copyright holders such that mickey mouse will likely never come off copyright.

Just a few facts for your discussion.

The purpose of a patent system is to promote full disclosure of useful inventions, which in turn, should spawn more useful inventions. In exchange for such disclosure, we give the patent holder a monopoly on the disclosed invention for a limited time.

If that time were extended it would largely defeat the purpose.

Currently, America is a "first to invent" system, so if you can prove you invented it before the other guy, it does not matter if you filed later. But the US is heading towards what the rest of the world uses, which is a "first to file" system, so the winner of the race to the patent office gets the patent.

The entire world embraces a patent system, so it's not an isolated idea here in the US.

Carry on.
