You've seen the breakdown between stateside and overseas facilities, or are you just making it up as you go along? All those bases overseas have 'hidden costs' like the schools and teachers needed to educate all those army 'brats' that come with military families. Its draining our economy and mostly benefits the countries where these facilities are. It is a lot of money but most of it flows back into the American economy and prvoides some jobs, etc. the point being it isn't all wasted and blown up in smoke. And it does provide security which is the most important single function of government. At any rate, it is a cost that we are going to have into perpetuity and cannot be substantially cut without endangerng our country or others.
