And it is fortuitous, many say, that the money gets doled out over two years — longer for major construction — considering the probable length of the “jobless recovery” under way as wary employers hold off on new hiring.

Economists said Republicans’ recent proposals to rescind unspent money would be a mistake.

Not that it could happen. But if it did, the surge in the economy from the sheer confidence it would instill in the American People would pull us out of the economic crisis.

If you repealed the balance of the stimulus, killed cap-and-tax and killed the current health care reform measures with a commitment to design a new bill with a panel of 10 Senators -- half Ds, half Rs, the economy would surge forward with the belief that a fiscal responsibility bomb had been dropped on Washington DC.


New Consensus Sees Stimulus Package as Worthy Step


There is certainly no consensus as far as the eye can see. In fact, it seems to me both Rs and Ds are calling for Geithner's head.
