our military might typically is used to protect American interests sadly true. as to afford... islamism (I use that term as I do christianism) is likely to spill over into Central Asia. and it is all happily exported by the Saudi's, who do well at keeping anyone from threatening their own 'kingdom'. I don't think it is any longer simply a matter of oil, even if that is why we have done it historically. there was an excellent, imo, piece by Spengler in the Asian Times lately about Europe, from the 1600's up until WWII days. I will pull it up. they destroyed themselves, and only with help recovered. all in religious and tribal wars. and they almost destroyed civilized nations all over as a result. I do think we have a best interest involved that is beyond oil.
