Top-Selling Sharp Power Zaurus Handheld Computer Now Supports SanDisk ATA Storage
Cards

BusinessWire, Monday, October 27, 1997 at 11:51

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 27, 1997--SanDisk
Corporation (NASDAQ:SNDK) announced today that Sharp's best-selling
handheld computer, the Power Zaurus, now supports SanDisk ATA flash
storage cards.
SanDisk officials described the development as a significant
design win for SanDisk giving the company a major new application for
the sale of its popular memory cards.
The Power Zaurus (MI-500) previously supported only proprietary,
linear flash storage cards. The SanDisk announcement means the Power
Zaurus will accept both standard Type II PC cards sold by SanDisk and
SanDisk's small-size CompactFlash(TM)(CF(TM)) memory cards which can be
used in the units with a CF adapter.
Nelson Chan, SanDisk vice president of marketing, said, "This is
great news for the many Power Zaurus owners. These ATA-based storage
cards are interoperable between the huge number of mobile and desktop
computers, digital cameras and other systems that operate on the ATA
standard. This means that, for the first time, data, images and
audio can be easily moved between a Power Zaurus and many platforms."
SanDisk's ATA card success with the Power Zaurus was made possible
by the SanDisk Software Host Developer's Tool Kit. The kit,
introduced by SanDisk one year ago, allows product developers to
easily create a DOS file structure for virtually any host processor
used by the system.
SanDisk Corporation, the world's largest supplier of flash data
storage products, designs, manufactures and markets
industry-standard, solid-state data, image and audio storage products
using patented, high density flash memory and controller technology.
SanDisk has strategic alliances with Seagate Technology, Matsushita
Electronic Corp., NEC Corp. and LG Semicon. Seagate holds a 25
percent equity stake in SanDisk. SanDisk is based in Sunnyvale.
