Good to see you J. Are you sure that 60% of WW PC sales are "other" Companies? The top ten WW have too big a "reported" market share to make that realistic. Music DVD still has no standard............................twice.virtualmarketing.com Music Biz Misses DVD Target Date - -November 3, 1997 By Joseph Palenchar The music industry's International Steering Committee (ISC) was scheduled to meet October 31 to determine how to proceed now that it failed to meet its deadline for issuing a request for proposed DVD audio disc formats. The ISC had planned to subject the proposed formats to listening tests as part of its effort to achieve a final draft specification by year's end in cooperation with the DVD consortium's audio working group. But the ISC failed to issue the request not only because members couldn't agree on test procedures but also because of disagreement over the tests' goals, a music industry executive claimed. "Originally, the tests were to determine if you could hear a difference, but then others saw it as a beauty contest" that should also take into account such issues as the complexity of making hardware, one music industry executive said. "The ISC got ahead of itself." As for the ISC's future role in testing format proposals, it's possible the committee will leave testing up to individual member music companies. "The initial reason for holding tests was to ensure the industry had a chance to hear different options and voice their opinions, but that's happening anyway," the marketer said. Even if not conducting listening tests, the ISC would still scrutinize proposals to determine whether they adhere to its other requirements, which include a call for a hybrid DVD/CD disc, copyright protection, and video and data capability.
