re if there is a clear NEED to provide health insurance why on this earth would we even suggest that the government, of all entities... be in a position to come even close to do so...?

Get with the program! ;o) Obama clearly stated the need back in February in a speech to the nation. It's so simple. He said the current banking/economic crisis was so severe that it had to be fixed and this plan was the only way to fix it.

Guess I'm just not that bright because I still can't seem to grasp the logic. How does borrowing trillions to nationalize medical care fix the banking problem? Supporters have explained it repeatedly, and it clearly has something to do with us emulating France. I still can't see how borrowing and spending trillions giving out free health care solves the banking crisis, financial problems, or economic problems. Oh well, guess I just ought to defer to the experts in DC because of their great track record at regulating big things, like the banks, and Wall Street. If it wasn't for the government's regulating of the banks and Wall Street, just think of where we would be right now!
