Mindmeld, you forgot to highlight the best part of the article:

> Elmendorf said that CBO's projection of modest net savings hinged on lawmakers keeping the big cost-cutting measures in place, and he noted a prime example of Congress doing the opposite.

So the CBO hinges its predictions on Congress keeping their word on future cost-cutting, LOL ...

Don't hold your breath for a new energy policy. Democrats will have their hands full trying to pay for ever increasing entitlement programs.

There was an excellent segment on 60 Minutes this Sunday, about how expensive death is in this country. 18-20% of the dying end up in the Intensive Care Unit, where the average charges run $10,000/day.

Some stay there for just a few days, some stay there for months. Medicare is REQUIRED to pay for ANY "necessary" treatment while they are there. This results in wastes such as a person dying of cancer receiving a quadruple bypass.

A LOT of medical expense could be saved by rationalizing this horrible system, that really serves no one. Desperate families will agree to ANYTHING to keep their dying loved ones around, even as tube-fed vegetables.

When it's grannie's time, we really DO need to pull the plug on grannie!
