>>" All too often, government intervention either hurts the industries they intended to help, or they help mediocre corporations that are "too big to fail. "<<

Is that how we have become the most powerful military nation the world has ever seen?

Amazing how successful our government "intervention and help" has been at that.

Very true. The too big too fail thing really infuriates me. If they are too big too fail, that's precisely when gov't should allow them to fail or force them into bankruptcy and sell off the parts to create a more competitive aftermath.

However, when used effectively, gov't can create regulations and cut red tape in crucial industries to increase competition, level the playing field, and spur growth. That is when gov't works well. The US gov't under Clinton was very effective at doing this for the Internet. And previous administrations helped create Silicon Valley through lucrative military contracts that later formed the basis for the tech mecca.

My bottom line, and where I part ways with the GOP, is that I think the government has a very important role to play in helping our businesses be successful. I think the current GOP has forgotten that gov't can be business' best friend when used properly.
