Inktomi Corp (San Mateo, CA), creator of the HotBot search engine, will store popular Web sites on its Traffic Server in network caches. Each cache will have info from many companies and Web sites. Up to 1 tril bytes of the most-frequently requested information will be stored so that the information need not be transported each time a user wants it. Inktomi's Dick Pierce says it is always cheaper to store data than to transport it.
