<<It is incredible, amazing, that two enormous bubbles will occur within a decade of each other>>

... we are blessed.

in hong kong, we get hit by crisis once every 3-5 years, and so are blessed once every 3-5 years.

i made a rough calculation, and it was possible to have simply prospered from bubble to bubble in greater china since 1984, and take out living expenses, and still come out way on top, all starting with say 1/4 of a mil of grub stake

Three bubbles: -

Biotelecosmictechdot.com

House prices always go up so pile on people with 100% mortgages

Gold mania

<It is incredible, amazing, that two enormous bubbles will occur within a decade of each other. >

I have now seen bubbles/manias in: oil, kiwifruit, goat farming, NZ stockmarket mid 1980s [which was qualitatively different though similar to those in Japan, USA, UK, Oz etc], Nikkei 1990. Y2K Biotelecosmictechdot.com mania, houses, NZ$, oil again a couple of years ago and now gold.

They get going reasonably enough but then build up a head of steam and go faster and faster to excess.

As our great and estimable iconic Uncle Al KBE expounded in regard to irrational exuberance, it's hard to know when it's going. But it's a bit like porn, I know it when I see it. Gold is starting to look a bit pornographic - certainly it has moved into the erotic art realm. Keep an eye on the drool from TJ as a guide to what stage we are at in erotic gold.
