I agree with the statement that the government does not
have a clue, but I do think they have a desire to move in
the right direction. The former kinda screws up the latter.
Since when does the government have a clue? Any government?
They just have to do "something" because doing nothing would
mean they are not doing their job. Few folks had a clue it
will end in tears while the bubbles were inflating.

A democratic government (this includes the Republicans), in
general, will always have the tendency to inflate. The
US government always tends to paper over problems or
somehow put a short term fix in, to win the next election.
The problem now is that there is no short term fix.
