I voted against it at the time and felt it was another example of the sense of entitlement, not by hippies and New Agers wanting to do their own thing as VINTER implied, but by the WW II generation - the same people who got more out of SS than they put in.

It was heralded as relief for the elderly but REALLY was aimed at large scale real estate mavens who voted themselves another piece of the pie. It only applies when real estate is not changing hands. Most working stiffs don't have the luxury of owning the same piece of property for 30 years any more. So who it really helped was slum lords and commercial real estate.

It isn't like any of the other taxes don't go up and the sales tax is zeroing in on 9% now.
