I agree totally with your thinking. This is a brilliant political move particularly after his visit to Asia which did not include India.

Manmohan Singh was the Chairman if India's Fed. So he is a intellectual. If you examine India's rise to power since 1947, you will notice that very early on, India allocated significant funds to education in general. They laid stress on the sciences, math and geography. They were a third world country all right, but when it came to education they were a very advanced country.

And then in the past twenty years or so, they had some intellectual luminaries guiding the policies and destiny of India. The past President is the "Father" of India's nuclear industry. As President, he continued to attend scientific and economic conferences in India and other nations. he was adept at figures and presentations using MS Word and Powerpoint etc. (Catch Bush Jr. doing that) And now we have Manmohan Singh, a world recognized economic expert guiding his nation. I am familiar with India's socio=economic structure. Comparing that with the US, I can not be very much off the mark to conclude the US socio-economic structure along with its work ethics of the work force etc. is far superior to that of India. But unfortunately, the Us leadership and its politics failed us.

India and Israel are shining examples of successful countries in the past 50 years. The US has the potential to take back its leadership position if we can cast away our obsession with worthless issues like abortion, giving tax breaks to the rich and widening the wealth gap, etc. etc.
