Still the best astromomers ever. but you have a point... I jest about the next tablet, but as you point out, they got whopped big time. and tho I use a jest, I am serious about an ending of the culture in terms of being able to continue the writing so I find the specualation about the 'end of the world' rather silly. but they aren't actually wiped out. Quatemala has a very large population and the language is alive, as well as populations in other countries. My nephew and his wife spend a lot of time there, and he is fluent in Spanish and getting their in the Mayan language. oh, and alive Mayans are generally puzzled by the ideas about 2012 that some of their northern neighbors hold. And the Navajo... if you sit with an old person and hear the stories of the stages of the world, it isn't that it 'ended', it's that things change. and things do change. when the europeans came to the Americas, things changed. some things ended, some new things started, and some things continued, and some changed but carried on. sometimes there seems to be a drive in some people for a stark line, rather than remembering there is always twilight. oh, and then dawn, of course. good ol' dawn.
