I don't want to be rude or anything but you're kind of late getting here. This stuff has been discussed here for a long time, you might just want to read the earlier posts. >> So they all have preventative care? Many people, some on this very thread, have plenty of insurance yet refuse preventative care such as an annual physical because they don't want it. There are preventative procedures my doctor recommends and I say, "No, thanks". That's my prerogative. I think anyone who wants insurance ought to be able to buy it affordably. But I don't believe it ought to be given to them, and it sure as hell should NOT be a legal requirement. And the legislation currently before congress will not provide anything that is remotely helpful on this front. Health care costs are too high, and the legislation does not help in that regard either (and actually, will make a bad problem worse). So, frankly, we're nowhere on this. Hopefully, this legislation will fail and we can start all over with a more moderate effort that actually addresses the problems in a way that will lead to a solution.

So they all have preventative care? Almost no one in this country has preventative care. Doctors are not geared to do it, insurance generally doesn't pay for it, and most individuals don't know how to go about pursuing it. The care we get is heavily oriented toward treatment and disease management with some screening thrown in. There's almost nothing in the way of prevention. Even those professional and government entities that advocate prevention are often off base or downright misleading. If we were to gear up for preventative care, it would add dramatically to the cost of health care in this country.
