Hitting that small pair on the river is a 23 to 1 shot. You shouldn't take them past the flop which is 7.5 to 1 which allows for pot odds-lol. That was your mistake.

That is a technical tell in poker. I see a person take a small pair past the river in limit poker, and I know I will have his money by the end of the night.

Negative expectation bets are the toughest poker concept I know of, but essential to understand i.e. anytime you make a bet on the river where the only time a person can call you is if they can beat you.

In which case you check and call.
